No other resource in the world is as precious as water. Yet, it is abused and misused.
Here are some ways you can help:
(So make sure you help!)
1. At home, you reuse your plastic bottles by filling them with can water or even rocks and placing them in the water tank of your toilets so that you use less water each time you flush.
2. Take showers instead of baths. Baths use 100 liters of water. Showers will generally use less than a third of this amount.
3. Take shorter showers. Try cutting your shower time in half. You may even replace your shower head with a more efficient one. Or, use a pail and dipper!
4. Turn off the faucet while you're brushing your teeth, shaving, washing your face or hands.
5. Don't use your toilet as a trashcan. Avoid flushing toilets unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than in the toilet.
6. Also turn off the faucet when you're soaping dishes. Only turn it on when you're rinsing and don't turn it on full.
7. Do not use running water while thawing frozen goods. Defrost them in a microwave or place the food in a bowl of hot water.
8. If you use a washing machine, don't use it until you have a full load. If your machine has an economy mode, use it as well to save on water and electricity.
9. Use grey water from baths, washing machines and dish washing in the garden or to wash your car.
10. You may even make yourself a rain water catcher.
11. Only order water from a restaurant if you are actually going to drink it.
12. Use the same glass of water instead of getting a new one every time.
13. Don't buy bottled water. Tap water is regularly tested to make sure it is safe for drinking. It would be better to carry around your own bottle or jug and just refill it. Bottled water incurs a huge carbon footprint because of manufacturing and transportation, plus their disposal.
14. Report leaks, broken pipes, and other water wasters. Don't be shy as there is nothing to be ashamed of if you're doing what is right
